My name is Richard Dewinetz. I am the founder and principal of Bodega North Woodworks. After being retired from construction & cabinet making for several years, I found myself wanting to do something creative that would satisfy my need to once again work with my hands. The opportunity presented itself in the summer of 2010 when my dear wife informed me that we needed some outdoor furniture for our newly completed home on Galiano Island, British Columbia. With my experience in carpentry & cabinet making, I decided to "give it a try"!
The first step was to order a set of plans for the original "Adirondack" chair which was designed and built in 1903 by Thomas Lee from New York. Based on these plans, I built two chairs and showed them to my friends & family. We concluded that there was a definite need to improve the appearance, the quality, the strength and the comfort for this style of chair. This feedback from my "focus group" led me to build several prototypes, testing out their reactions on each improved version. Happily, the final versions were loudly acclaimed by everyone in the group!
As an additional step to test out the potential marketability of our chairs, we showed the final models to a number of successful business people on Galiano and in Vancouver. They all said the same thing......"People will buy these; there is nothing on the market that offers the quality and comfort like your "Galirondack" version of the original".
What emerged from all these events was the "Galirondack Collection" of fine quality outdoor furniture. As the saying goes.....the rest is history! In just a few short years, we now have a list of very satisfied customers. We'd love to add your name to this list.
